“The yoga room is a place where we go to develop poise and equanimity from which to draw from in our lives. When the space is not neat and tidy, it distracts us from the centeredness we seek. It is a practice in mindfulness to improve this sacred space we are sharing.”
-Carmen Viola, Iyengar Yoga instructor Mondays 7:30 pm; Wednesdays 9:30 am
As members of this wonderful Maya community, we’ve rededicated ourselves to what instructor Carmen Viola so eloquently expresses: improving the space we share.
Recently, both instructors and students have beautified our studio prop areas – yoga mats are now folded individually so that a student may take just one mat or two, as desired; folded blankets are piled neatly with the fringe hanging toward the wall; blocks are stacked in the same direction; straps are rolled and put away in baskets.
You will see signage placed near the storage areas in both studios asking students to replace mats and props the same way they found them. Please be mindful and follow this practice, in appreciation for the sacred space we share.
Let us know how this new practice affects you. Leave a comment by clicking on this post’s title listed to the right!
